I love a mocha. Like love love a mocha. In fact, a mocha was my first taste of coffee — which has now led to a deeply concerning addiction to caffeine, but we’ll save that story for another time.

Anyway. I love a mocha. But what I love even more is a scalding hot peppermint mocha. With whipped cream.

So this year I thought, hmmm… how could I sneak my protein powder into this and make it just a little bit healthier? And voilà — here we are.
It’s hot, chocolatey, lightly minty (nothing aggressive), and it actually tastes amazing even with protein in it. Still feels like a treat. It just works a little harder.

hot peppermint mocha recipe

Ingredients

  • • 3 cups hot milk (whatever you use normally)
  • 1 shot espresso (or strong coffee)
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/8 tsp peppermint extract (seriously, don’t overdo this)
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder

How I Make It

01. Heat the milk on the stove until it’s hot but not boiling.

02. Whisk in the cocoa powder until it’s smooth — take the extra 10 seconds here, it’s worth it.

03. Stir in the espresso and peppermint extract

04. Take it off the heat and whisk in the protein powder so it doesn’t clump. I use a frother.

05. Now the fun part. Pour it into a mug and garnish it with a healthy dose of whipped cream and some crush candy cane

To really make this recipe complete, you can’t just use any generic protein powder. You’ve gotta use my Chocolate Swirl protein powder. Trust me on this — it will not disappoint.

Plus, all of our protein powders have added fiber, so you can feel extra healthy sipping this hot mocha by a fire pretending you didn't just spend the whole payment on presents.
